Soita mummolle – MIND the seniors

“Soita Mummolle – MIND the seniors” was a conceptual design project developed by an interdisciplinary team of students during their summer internship in MIND Research Group, Aalto University. The team did not receive an extensive brief, but was just asked to design “concepts for products and services to make the life of elderly people happier, easier, healthier and more independent, so that they could live longer in their own homes and avoid hospitalization”. Observing and listening to the target group was encouraged, as well as trying out quickly every idea considered having a potential. The method chosen to develop the concepts further was a reiteration of prototyping cycles, in which ideas were immediately, roughly tested and successively refined by observing results and repeating the process.

Many ideas were tested during summer 2009 (e.g. Language Café, Mummotaxi, Seniors’ Minibar…) and presented to the commissioning company Active Life Village. Some of the ideas went through many prototyping reiterations, reaching higher levels of definition. One of the ideas, the homonymous social campaign Soita Mummolle, went as far as becoming an existing and popular grassroot guerrilla campaign in summer 2010.
